May Bluebell 'Standing Stones'
1 – 12 September 2026
Opening night reception: 3 September 5.30-7.30pm
May Bluebell’s new work Standing Stones explores ancestry and landscape through
photography and print-based practices. Stones recur as motifs marking place and
connection. Raised in Western Australia’s Pilbara, Bluebell’s practice draws from the red
desert and sits between Australian Gothic and Scottish heritage. The work engages
folklore and absence across these landscapes. Referencing Scotland’s standing stones -
associated with ceremonial sites, spiritual and thresholds - it considers their cultural
resonance across histories. Gaelic folklore and migration narratives intersect with
abstracted landscapes shaped through layered photographic processes. Standing Stones
reflects on identity, dislocation, and the relationship between memory and place.
