Samer Hatam 'Relics'
Exhibition dates - October 7th - 18th 2025
Opening night - Thursday October 9th 5.30 to 7.30pm
Relics explores the blurred line between truth and narrative in history. Through limited-edition etchings, Hatam questions the reliability of relics and the stories we inherit, reflecting on how fiction and fact often intertwine. A personal and philosophical journey into the uncertainty of interpreting the past.
Based in Auckland, Samer Hatam studied printmaking at the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts before completing an MFA at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. His practice explores and celebrates powerful architectural forms, from ancient Sumerian ziggurats to contemporary structures. Since 1984, Hatam has exhibited internationally and was a finalist for the James Wallace Art Award in 2005. Notable solo exhibitions include My City (Judith Anderson Gallery, 2005), Transplant (Edmiston Duke Gallery, 2006), and Urbs (City Art Rooms, 2007).
