VKM 'Foot Traffic'
1 - 12 September
Opening night reception: 3 September 5.30 – 7.30pm
Viki Murray’s latest solo exhibition Foot Traffic deepens her observation of people in transit
— figures caught from behind, mid-stride, and anonymous. With a photographer's curiosity
she explores the fleeting arrangement of light on fabric, the weight of a bag on a shoulder,
the geometry of shoes on the pavement with stencils, illustrations and mixed media - all
extensions of that first act of noticing. This collection moves onto new ground — literally.
Finely cut monotone stencils are installed onto early to mid-century hand-painted kimono
zuan; one-off textile design studies on collectable mulberry paper, now host to a second life.
The works pulse with the heartbeat of Fitzroy and Collingwood and the choreography of
everyday urban life.
