Collection: Angela Coombs Matthews

Angela Coombs Matthews lives in the Riverina region of New South Wales and has worked as a professional photographer, art tutor, and picture framer after completing a BA visual Photomedia at Australian National University in 1997. She has continued to develop her art practice across the mediums of photography, painting, drawing and printmaking. Angela has undertaken artist residencies, workshops, and has been involved in creative projects and programs in Wagga Wagga, Temora, Canberra, Melbourne, Launceston, Hill End and Barcelona. Angela has exhibited in Wagga Wagga, Canberra and Melbourne, and has work held at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. Angela creates imaginary places and moments, evokes moods, feelings and new visual experiences by absorbing, reimagining and remembering elements in the natural world. This leads to embarking on a voyage of the imagination involving surface characteristics, tonal planes, mark making, linear and textural qualities, and being totally immersed in the creative process, allowing the work as it evolves to inform her. Angela’s work communicates her internal musings and she invites viewers into their own process of interpretation, contemplation and emotional engagement.
