Collection: Arichi Yoshito

Arichi Yoshito, a 1972 graduate of the Nihon University College of Art, is a highly regarded Japanese printmaker whose career spans several decades. His practice has long centred on abstract and non-representational imagery, shaped by further artistic study in England, Australia, and the United States. In addition to his studio work, he has shared his expertise as a professor of printmaking at Nihon University, where he has played an influential role in the development of younger artists.

Arichi’s prints often explore geometric forms - discs, squares, and other shapes - that create a sense of depth and spatial movement. His skillful use of texture enhances this dimensionality, whether through printing with uninked plates to produce subtle embossing on heavy paper or through layering delicate hand-made washi papers onto the surface. Gradual colour transitions frequently introduce soft, implied shadows, adding nuance and atmosphere. Together, these techniques result in dynamic works that feel both vibrant and contemplative, alive with colour, form, and motion.
