Margie Sheppard is a painter and printmaker who has lived and worked in the Adelaide Hills for over 35 years. After many years devoted exclusively to printmaking, she returned to painting a decade ago, now dividing her time between both practices. Each offers its own distinct challenges and rewards, and together they shape her evolving visual language.

Her recent paintings and prints reveal a shift towards pure, simplified forms, moving away from the figurative focus of her earlier work. Working across etchings, woodcuts, and paintings, Margie finds that each discipline informs the others, creating a natural progression in her creative process.

Margie graduated in Painting from the South Australian School of Art in 1973 and began her career teaching in the TAFE system. She has presented more than 20 solo exhibitions across South Australia and interstate, and her work has also been shown in New Zealand, Slovenia, Mexico, Korea, and the USA. She has been selected for major national printmaking awards, including the Fremantle Print Award and the Burnie Print Prize, and is a three-time winner of the Whyalla Art Prize Print Award.
