Michael Fikaris

Artist CV

Michael Fikaris is a Greek-Ukrainian-Australian artist, born in Melbourne and raised in North Queensland. Over the past decade, he has developed a diverse and multidisciplinary practice spanning comics, illustration, printmaking, painting, installation, and research. From experimental publications to large-scale outdoor works, each project is approached as an opportunity to foster connection with both people and place.

Alongside his freelance practice, Fikaris is also an editor, publisher, and community arts practitioner. He founded Silent Army Projects in 2010, a platform focused on collaborative publishing and creative engagement. His longstanding dedication to community arts was recognised with the Platinum Ledger Award in 2017 for outstanding service to Australian comics.

Fikaris has collaborated with communities across Australia and participated in international residencies in East Timor, Portugal, Indonesia, Germany, and France. These cross-cultural experiences have informed his commitment to expanding public awareness of the role of art in shaping collective consciousness.

His work is held in several major public collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria (Living Artists Collection), the State Library of Victoria (Artists’ Books Collection), and the National Gallery of Australia (Book Arts Collection).
